From there, both played in various bands, and had various successes with major record label deals, touring, and song writing. A decade later, the two began working together writing and performing. Austen resides in Rome, GA with his wife, Emily, and Haley resides in North Georgia with her dog Boone and 3 chickens T-boz, Left Eye and Chili. Rome, Georgia’s Russell Cook & the Sweet Teeth is a two-guitar and drums juke-joint style trio, using sharp-edged songwriting to open up a vein of electrified Americana. Featuring the sparkling guitar work of Scotty Knight and ace drummer Jeremy Clark, the Sweet Teeth play new songs, traditional songs, and original songs written by Cook. Cook is a visual artist and a college professor raised in the small northwest Georgia town Fairmount. He also plays music with wife and co-writer Cameron Cook in the bluegrass folk duo the Little Country Giants.

Embodiment II (invitational group exhibition)

Moon Gallery, M-F, 9am-5pm

Embodiment II features artwork created by artists who utilize the human figure in a range of media and approaches. For many, the human form is the site of identity or the generator of narrative, while also providing a structure for formal and material experimentation. Exhibiting artists include Pam Beagle-Daresta, who works across disciplines to encourage discovery. Local artist/musician Russell Cook works with the figure in a range of media including collage and sculpture. An Associate Professor of Art at Georgia Highlands College, he holds degrees in painting from the University of Georgia (MFA) and Georgia State University (BFA). Jason Guynes creates highly representational work with drawing materials and oil paint often using himself as a subject. Craig Hawkins creates paintings and drawings that often employ the figure to explore issues surrounding belief and truth. He is an associate professor of drawing and foundations at Valdosta State University, where he received his BFA. (His MFA is from the University of Georgia.)

Acoustic Café is set to feature four singers/songwriters each performance with the first being February 13 at 7p.m. Our first performers of 2020 include Russell Cook, Joseph Evans, Stephen Hare, and Rick McKee. There will be a $5 “cover charge” at the door – tickets will not be sold in advance. A cash bar with beer and wine will be available, and Calhoun Coffee Company will be on-site offering coffee and pastries for purchase. Audience members are encouraged to tip the entertainment. For more information, please contact the Harris Arts Center at 706-629-2599.

Russell Cook is a visual artist and musician.  Trained as a painter, his work includes collage, sculpture, songwriting, and performance.  He has shared the stage with a range of musical artists, including Del McCoury,  the Carolina Chocolate Drops, and Dale Watson.  He has recorded six albums with his wife Cameron as the Little Country Giants, including recording with Mike Compton and Stranger Malone (Guinness world record holder for longest recording career), and was part of the original ensemble cast for a Stephen King/John Mellencamp musical.  His award-winning paintings and sculptures have been shown at galleries and festivals across the United States.  Currently, he is exploring new sounds as Russell Cook and the Sweet Teeth, a terrific two-guitar and drums juke-joint style trio.  Though he has crisscrossed the country and gone up and down both coasts playing music and showing artwork, he spends most of his days as Associate Professor of Art with Tenure at Georgia Highlands College.
